DIVERSIFYING FINANCIAL AND OTHER STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIPS TO SUPPORT A CAMPAIGN FOR LEGAL EQUALITY
UN Women was suffering from a funding gap as government contributions were dwindling. They needed to find new sources of income for an increasing program of work to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.
PARTNERS: UN Women
Developing a strategy and recommendations for diversifying UN Women’s donor base, identifying prospects for that donor base and what messages would resonate most, and planning the execution of the recommendations made in the strategy paper.
This strategy paper represented an effort to help fill the funding gap at UN Women to enable it to fulfill its programmatic agenda. It was requested by the Chief of the Political Participation and Governance section and contained highlights from interviews with prospective donors, recommendations on messaging and how to deliver those messages, and how to build its communications efforts toward achieving its funding goals.
Working with UN Women, Variant Strategies identified the need to diversify its donor base to fulfill UN Women’s programmatic goals. VS conducted over 25 interviews with individuals we identified as representative of various kinds of donors and donor networks. We then consolidated the information gleaned in these interviews into a comprehensive strategy with concrete recommendations for how to move forward in diversifying UN Women’s funding streams.
