At the time of the case, only two states in the nation allowed juries to disregard the voices of up to two people for the purpose of silencing minority voices in order to convict whoever they wanted: Oregon and Louisiana.The problem: The Supreme Court decision only ruled that non-unanimous juries could no longer be used going forward. But what about the hundreds of people still in prison, and thousands more outside saddled by an unconstitutionally racist criminal conviction, that happened to be convicted prior to the Supreme Court case? We interviewed doctors, lawyers, experts and most importantly victims to show the devastation caused by the Cholera outbreak, to raise awareness about the fact that it was the UN that introduced Cholera to Haiti, and to demonstrate the need to pay for damages incurred by victims so that they could rebuild their lives. That fear was legitimized by Trump policy that did use government lists and hand them over to ICE to track down and deport immigrants. Immigrants were also kept from benefiting from public government services under Trump, so many assumed the same would be true with the COVID vaccine. But Biden ended that Trump policy and in fact, getting a vaccine now has no impact on an individual’s immigration status and under HIPPA their information would not be shared with any government bodies. It also has one of the highest percentages of black inmates, and black juvenile inmates sentenced to life without parole. A bill, the Juvenile Restoration Act (JRA), came before the State House of Representatives on January 21, 2021 to end the practice of life without parole sentencing for juveniles.
